September is Hunger Action Month—a time to come together as a community and take steps toward ending hunger. At Heart of Maine Resource Center, we believe that when neighbors come together with purpose, change is possible.
Not sure where to begin? Here are five ways to take action this month (and beyond):
1. Become a Monthly Partner
Recurring donors help us plan for the future and ensure that families can count on our food distributions every month. Even $15/month helps feed a family of 4 for one month.

2. Share a Post or Story
Raising awareness matters. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, then share a post that speaks to you. Use your voice to tell others about food insecurity in our region—because hunger is real, and it’s right here.
3. Volunteer Your Time
From packing boxes to greeting neighbors at our monthly distribution, volunteers are the heart of what we do. Whether you have one hour or one day, we’d love to have you on the team.

4. Organize a Drive or Fundraiser
Every can counts—and so does every dollar. Consider hosting a food drive at your workplace, school, or faith community. Or run a fundraiser to support the launch of our Client Choice Food Center. We’re happy to help you get started.
5. Talk About It
Food insecurity doesn’t always look like hunger. It looks like impossible choices—between groceries or heat, medicine or meals. The more we talk about hunger with honesty and compassion, the more we can reduce stigma and build a network of care.
This month—and every month—we invite you to be part of the solution. Together, we can end hunger in our community so all can thrive.
