From Seeds to Shelves: Growing a Movement of Care

Celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Week at Heart of Maine Resource Center

Every act of service is a seed. Some are planted quietly—packing a food box with care, sweeping up after a long day, or showing up to a meeting with a thoughtful question. Others burst onto the scene—repairing a roof, building a ramp, delivering a meal. But each one matters.

At Heart of Maine Resource Center, our volunteers are gardeners of this movement. You help make sure food reaches neighbors’ shelves, homes become safer and more accessible, and community members know they’re not alone.

Because of you, more than 3,800 individuals had food on their tables last year.

Because of you, 28 households experienced critical home repairs.

Because of you, a long-vacant building on Main Street is being transformed into a space where neighbors will connect, share stories, and find support.

You are the heartbeat of this work. Whether you give your time once a year or every month, whether you lift lumber or lift our spirits, you are part of something deeply rooted in care.

As we look ahead to what’s next—more food access, a welcoming new space, and programs that reflect our neighbors’ hopes and needs—we carry your contributions with us.

Thank you for planting these seeds. Thank you for helping them grow.

With immense gratitude,

All of us at Heart of Maine Resource Center
